A FANATIC GEEK

In what way could it be used to illustrate it?

Key issues found in class:

1. Would the internet be a threat to culture and art ? or controversly can it foster it?
2. Is the younger generation really aware of illegal practices when it comes to culture?
3. Does the internet really emphazise the idea of progress or can we argue that it also shows its limits?

My key issues and their explications:

1. Does the internet share culture or does it have a neggative impact on it? does it depreciate/disparage the image of culture?

First of all, the internet is a hudge plateform in which we can find all kind of informations. In fact, for example we can admire a paint and find informations about it without going to the museum, we can watch movies without going to the cinema and listen for music without having the CD.
In fact, people don't need to spend money to have knowledge because the internet offers free informations. However, people who find informations on the internet are abusing of author's right.

2. Should the internet puts limits to his way of spreading culture ?

As the internet enables us to access freely to culture or art, it can also appears as a threat.
However, we have to consider that some poor region in the world can't enable people to have access to museums, conferences, events or shows. Then, people maybe can't afford it. Thanks to the internet, they can learn about culture and art all around the world

3. Is the illegal downloading really representing the idea of progress ?

Is this practice is a progression or a regression ? New technologies are increasing but it does'nt respect author's right.

How this cartoon can illustrate the idea of progress?

On the one hand, the cartoon takes place during the Cannes Film's Festival and it's a considerable symbol of the movie evolution.
On the other hand, thanks to the ballon and through the teenager we see the increasment of new technologies.
Eventually, we can say that this cartoon illustrates the idea of progress thanks to the context, the subject raised and the humor used by the cartoonist.
